Things to do in Gibraltar

Whether you're here for a few days or turning our wedding into a full-on adventure, Gibraltar has plenty to offer, from dramatic sea views and cheeky monkeys to historic tunnels and vibrant plazas. This little peninsula packs in natural beauty, rich history, and unique culture, all within easy walking distance. We’ve put together some top sights and experiences to help you make the most of your stay, whether you’re into nature, food, history, or just relaxing in the sun. Casemates Square is Gibraltar’s main public square and a lively hub for dining, shopping, and people-watching. Located at the northern end of Main Street, it’s surrounded by historic buildings and was once a military parade ground. Today, it’s filled with open-air cafes, pubs, and restaurants, perfect for relaxing, meeting up with others, or starting a day of sightseeing.

Casemates Square

A highlight of any visit, the Gibraltar Cable Car whisk you from Grand Parade at the base of Main Street up to the Top of the Rock an elevation of 412 min just about 6 minutes. At the summit, you’ll find panoramic terraces, a café, and the Mons Calpe Suite Restaurant &amp; Bar ideal spots to relax with breathtaking views across the Strait of Gibraltar, the Spanish coast, and even Morocco on a clear day. You’ll also meet Gibraltar’s famous residents, the Barbary macaques, who roam freely around the top station (just observe from a distance and never feed them)

Cable Car

For the brave (and the selfie lovers), the Gibraltar Skywalk is a must-see! Built on the site of a former WWII lookout point, this glass platform stands 340 meters above sea level offering 360° panoramic views over the Rock, the Mediterranean, and even Africa on a clear day.The glass floor gives you the thrill of standing “in the sky” with the cliffs dropping beneath your feet. Don’t worry, it’s made from multiple layers of reinforced glass and can hold the weight of over 5 elephants (really!).

The Skywalk

If you're up for a bit of a thrill, don’t miss the Windsor Suspension Bridge, a 71-meter-long footbridge suspended high above a dramatic gorge in the Upper Rock Nature Reserve. Crossing it gives you sweeping views over Gibraltar’s lush Green Valley, the Bay, and even across to Spain and Morocco on a clear day. The bridge gently sways as you walk (don’t worry, it’s perfectly safe!) adding just the right touch of adventure. It’s a short, scenic walk from the Skywalk and perfect for nature lovers, photographers, or anyone looking to stretch their legs with a view.

Windsor Suspension Bridge

Step into the underground wonder of St. Michael’s Cave, one of Gibraltar’s most famous natural attractions. This stunning limestone cave features dramatic stalactites and stalagmites, beautifully lit to enhance its natural beauty. At the heart of the cave is an impressive cathedral-like chamber that now serves as an event venue, occasionally hosting concerts and light shows thanks to its incredible acoustics. It’s cool, mysterious, and full of history, ancient legends even claimed it was a secret gateway to Africa!

St. Michael's Cave

History buffs, this one’s for you! The WWII Tunnels offer a fascinating glimpse into Gibraltar’s military past. Dug deep into the Rock, this underground network was built by British forces during World War II to house troops, hospitals, and command centers, all hidden from enemy view. A guided tour takes you through key parts of the tunnels, complete with wartime equipment, audio effects, and real stories from the soldiers who lived and worked there. It's a powerful, immersive experience that reveals just how important Gibraltar was during the war.

Welcome to the southernmost point of Gibraltar, where you can gaze across the sea to Africa on a clear day! Europa Point offers stunning coastal views and a peaceful place to walk, take photos, or just soak in the sea breeze. Highlights include the iconic Trinity Lighthouse, still in operation today, the striking Ibrahim-al-Ibrahim Mosque, the historic Harding’s Battery and a small visitors’ center with info on Gibraltar’s geography and history. It’s a calm, scenic spot that reminds you just how close Gibraltar is to the rest of the world.

Things to Do in Gibraltar

In the heart of Gibraltar town, The Eliott Hotel has 2 restaurants and a fitness center. The stylish hotel features a rooftop pool and terrace, offering views over the Gibraltar Strait. The bright and airy bedrooms have Wi-Fi access and air conditioning. The 4-star rooms also feature a private balcony, and a TV with satellite channels. The Rooftop Bistro serves fresh Mediterranean cuisine, with views towards the Rock of Gibraltar. Veranda Bar offers light snacks and an international menu, and hosts live jazz nights. The O'Callaghan Eliott is 0.6 mi from Gibraltar Airport, and is surrounded by a great selection of shops, bars and restaurants. Parking is available at a surcharge, and Gibraltar Harbor is a 10-minute walk away.

The Eliott Hotel

Offering a subtropical garden and a swimming pool, Bristol Hotel is located just a 2-minute walk to the main street in Gibraltar. The Rock of Gibraltar is just 1.9 mi away. Ocean Village Marina is less than 1.2 mi away and offers a variety of restaurants and dolphin sightseeing boat trips. Every room at this hotel is air conditioned and comes with a TV. Some rooms include a seating area for your convenience. Every room comes with a private bathroom, free toiletries and a hairdryer. The hotel has a 24-hour reception for your convenience. Each also has its own bathroom, and views of the sea. The hotel’s restaurant also has panoramic views across the Bay of Gibraltar, the Spanish mainland and the Rif Mountains of Morocco. Guests can enjoy an open-air seawater pool, which sits in its own secluded garden. The town center is just 0.6 mi from Rock Hotel, with a shopping center within 1.2 mi. There are botanical gardens to visit just 328 feet from the building. Please note that there is a possibility that the swimming pool may be closed some days due to weather, at the discretion of the management.
